History of Penick

A A A
Penick Village is nestled in one of the oldest sections of Southern Pines – just a few blocks from downtown. Penick Village got its start thanks to a generous gift from Mrs. James Boyd, who donated 13.5 acres of land adjacent to the Weymouth Nature Preserve. Ground was broken for our first building in 1962 and the doors opened for our first residents on April 15, 1964.

Since that time, Penick Village has expanded to 38 acres, added 48 cottages and duplexes, and another building. Residential apartments and houses, assisted living and skilled nursing are all provided at Penick Village. Currently, we are expanding our campus to add 11 more cottages, 72 residential apartments, and a Village House, which will serve as our central hub for all activities, including: dining, entertainment, socials, classes, and town hall meetings. We’re also adding an innovative assisted living component.

A lot has changed in our almost 44 years of history except for one thing – our dedication to the people we serve and take care of . We want the absolute best for the amazing seniors who have done so much for our town, our state, our country and our world. We are truly thankful for the opportunity to serve them and we look forward to the next 44 years.
