Annual Report
Penick Village Annual Report To The 2011 Diocesan Convention
Wow! It is hard to believe that another year has passed and that the 2011 Diocesan Convention is here! What happened to 2010? Where did it go? Well, someone once said, the only constant thing in our life is change. 2010 was an exciting year of changes for Penick Village and we have great faith that 2011 will be full of positive changes too. Here are just a few of the details of the many exciting things happening with the Penick Village family.
- The Blanche Robertson Garden Cottage is open and thriving! Our vision is now reality and has been since May 3, 2010 after the first residents moved in. Our goal for our frailest residents is to have a model of care that eliminates the institutional characteristics of traditional long-term care, a goal Penick Village is committed to reaching for all its residents. A marker of our success occurred recently when one of the residents who had just sat down to a home-cooked dinner said to a visitor, “it’s home.” We are on the right path. Six more cottages to go.
- Our ministry is expanding to serve more people! Construction began on our much awaited new apartment building and campus community center, the Woodlands Apartments and Village House. With these additions, Penick Village will be several steps closer in assuring its future. Penick Village’s current residents, families and staff have watched the progression of this exciting project come out of the ground; some from afar, some close by, and some with binoculars! We hope to open the Village House with its four dining venues, the classrooms, convenience store, cinema, etc. in May of 2011. The first residents are scheduled to move in to the Woodlands in July. Also, please mark your calendars, our new chapel will be consecrated on June 7, 2011. We would be honored to have you as a guest on this very special day.
- With our commitment to the Millennium Development Goals, Penick Village continues to work towards being “green.” All the required design, construction, and paperwork for the Blanche Robertson Garden Cottage have been completed for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The Woodlands and Village House projects have taken the necessary design and construction steps to achieve LEED certification.
- Penick Village’s Sixth Annual Art Show and Sale has been moved to the Fall 2011! This gives Penick Village the opportunity to host this great event in the new Village House. Most importantly, the show continues to provide much needed support of the Penick Village’s Benevolent Assistance Fund. The festivities begin the evening of Friday, September 30th with a Preview Party gala event sponsored by the Penick Village Foundation Board of Trustees. The Art Show and Sale continues Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2. Come on by, you will have a great time!
- We continue to have our uncompromising commitment to Bishop Penick’s dream that no resident ever be turned out for lack of funds. This ministry is alive and well. We will provide over $1,000,000 of financial assistance this fiscal year.
As we embrace the changes we will see in 2011, the Penick Village family will work to do so with grace, a strong faith, flexibility when needed, and with an enjoyment in the opportunity to serve. Thanks be to God!
