Penick Village Wins the Culinary Cup at the Fourth Annual Moore County Culinary Showcase
For the second year in a row, Executive Chef Scott Margolis and the culinary team of Penick Village participated in the Annual Moore County Culinary Showcase to compete for the prized culinary cup. Sponsored by the Moore County Chamber of Commerce, this premier event featured cuisine from 16 of the finest chefs in Moore County and raised scholarship funds for local students pursuing their culinary dreams. The event had several hundred guests in attendance and was held in the reception center at the luxurious Pine Needles Resort.
“This event is a great way for Penick Village to show the local community that our culinary team and cuisine are as wonderful as any dining or catering experience offered in town,” said Chef Margolis. “We certainly enjoy the expression on the guests’ faces when they sample the food and learn it’s from Penick Village.”
Local chefs spent the afternoon preparing dishes to delight the senses of the culinary judges, and they left attendees eagerly wanting more. This year, Executive Chef Scott Margolis and his culinary team, comprised of Chef Garry Person, Chef Steffanie Brown, Chef Brad Blue, and Sous Chef Tijuan Spencer, submitted the following menu items, which won the prized culinary cup:
- An appetizer of marinated scallops with horseradish potatoes, drizzled with red bell pepper juice, herb juice and mustard oil.
- An entrée of roasted Cornish hen with a demi-glace sauce, cranberry stuffing and cranberry relish.
- A trio dessert plate consisting of an apple pastry with caramel nut sauce and cranberry sauce, pumpkin cake topped with a cheesecake swirl and a chocolate ginger cup with a scoop of sweet potato ice cream.
“We greatly appreciate the Moore County Chamber for coordinating this event, and all the sponsors and volunteers that help create this wonderful opportunity for us to share our culinary creativity with the greater community,” said Mike McKay, Dining Services Director. “With the competition being so good, our team was absolutely ecstatic and a little in shock about winning the culinary cup.”
One of the reasons for entering the culinary showcase again this year was to share with residents of Moore County and beyond what food is like at Penick Village.
“We have gone to great lengths to create an incredible dining experience for our residents, said Mike. “A win like this makes a great statement for the direction retirement communities are striving toward.”
