Residents pick Penick Village as their home for many reasons—one is our close proximity to Southern Pines, N.C. When you reside in our community you’re at the heart of rural living, but only minutes from sophisticated offerings.

For instance, the perennial student will find plenty of intellectual stimulation from the libraries, courses, and cultural offerings at some of the best universities in the nation. The nearby Sandhills Community College offers a wealth of continuing education opportunities, from drama to horticulture. Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University are within an hour’s drive

If you're a naturalist at heart, you only have to travel next door to unearth botanical treasures like the insectivorous purple pitcher plant or the Pine Barrens gentian. The endangered red-cockaded woodpecker also makes his home in the 676 acres of Weymouth Woods nature preserve. And if gardening is where your passion lies, you'll love the Weymouth Center Gardens.

Another neighbor is the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities. Hub for the arts, it houses the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame and sponsors concerts, lectures and readings. It was originally built and was the primary residence for James Boyd (author of "Drums" and other well-known novels), his wife Katharine, and their three children.
