Friends of Penick Village Welcome New Officers

Friends of Penick Village held their annual meeting and Valentine's Day party Thursday, Feb. 7, in the North building.

President Janice Costello introduced the new board members and officers for the coming season. Costello is retiring as president after serving for two years.

She is an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and has been a member of the Friends of Penick board for several years. In introducing new members, she promised to continue to be active on the board.

Costello introduced pianist Mary Lee Schulte who provided piano music throughout the refreshment time, and afterward played some old favorite tunes with a Valentine theme, with Costello leading the attendees in song. Residents and staff thanked the Friends of Penick for their parties over the years.

In addition to the quarterly parties they sponsor, the Friends, through membership dues and fundraisers, provide funds for purchasing such items as a special wheelchair, furniture, upholstering, permanent silk flower arrangements and holiday flowers for the nursing residents.

In the past they have provided funds for a golf cart and helped purchase a van. Members of the board donate the food and decorations for the parties as well as providing gifts for the door prizes. Penick Village will sponsor an Arts and Crafts Show Saturday, March 1, and the Friends of Penick board members will join in helping on this event.

The show is a fundraiser to benefit the endowment fund, and a preview party will be sponsored on Friday, Feb. 29, which will include a firsthand look at the artwork while enjoying wine and hors d' oeuvres. Several vacation homes, golf packages and wines will be among the various items to be auctioned along with the art for purchase.
